Michael Warren Wilson is an artist, educator and filmmaker whose projects have explored apocalyptic, (US) Southern, and capitalist systems and imaginaries. Many of his projects involve years of research and production, multiple collaborators and manifest in a variety of media.He was a member of C-level, a media and activist collective in Los Angeles’ Chinatown. He has also collaborated with artists Jennifer Nelson, Natalie Zimmerman, Ben Ehrenreich and Tongo Eisen-Martin, among many others. His first feature Silhouette City was called “a transfixing and important film” by Michelle Goldberg of the New York Times.Wilson was a founder/editor of the multimedia supply chain research project Empire Logistics (2009-2017). With Natalie Zimmerman, he produced a number of films, including Eros & Psyche (2011), Close the Eyes (2013) and Oceania (2023). Michael Warren Wilson’s most recent feature film, WE HAVE JUST BEGUN, explores the legacy of the 1919 Elaine Massacre and Jim Crow on the contemporary Arkansas Delta. His feature documentary was called “required viewing” by the NAACP of Arkansas and “”We Have Just Begun” is “the first document to tell the truth of what happened in 1919 instead of the story the white cotton empire builders who started the genocide want the world to believe,” by Lenora Marshall, vice president of Elaine Legacy Center. As an educator, Michael Warren Wilson has taught film, video, new media, art theory and art practice at several colleges, art schools, film schools and universities. He has also received a number of awards, grants, fellowships and residencies. His work has shown widely, and at such varied locations as the Sigmund Freud Museum (Vienna), the Byzantine Museum (Athens), Harvard Divinity School, Entermultimediale (Prague), Miami Film Festival, Ronald Feldman Fine Arts (NYC), Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival, Kunsthalle Dusseldorf, Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Arkansas Arts Center and RealArtWays (CT). Wilson lives and works in Arkansas and California.
